Heather “Feather” Yonkers

Studio Communications

Specialties: Intro to Dance, Musical Theatre, Partner Dancing

Fostering students’ love of the performing arts is one of Heather’s top goals in life. She studied ballet, tap, and jazz at Miller’s Dance Studio in Aurora, Colorado. In 2002, she relocated to New York to attend SUNY Potsdam. After completing her BA and Masters Degrees in Education, Heather began teaching dance classes and bravely branched out into the local musical theatre scene. Working as a choreographer and/or a stage director with high schools, collegiate clubs, and community theatre groups lead to entertaining productions of titles such as Guys and Dolls, Catch Me If You Can, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Producers to name a few. Heather is eager and grateful for the opportunity to continue sharing her enthusiasm and love for the performing arts with students at ISD! Check out her website!

How would you describe your teaching style?

“I focus on fostering a love of dance. It's not about perfecting dance steps. It's about gaining confidence, having fun, and expressing themselves through creative movement. If I had to pick some adjectives to describe myself as a teacher: loving, patient, silly, cheerful, organized, dedicated.”
