KinderdanceKinderdance I & II
(Ages 3-5)

Our youngest classes introduce dancers to pre-ballet, tap and creative movement. Our classes are designed to introduce movement and music while stimulating the imagination, developing rhythm and coordination skills.

Kinderdance classes are held once a week for 45 minutes. This class runs for the entire season (September through May) and Kinderdancers are invited to participate in our annual recital in June. Students must be 3 by November 2009 and be fully potty-trained. Requires tap shoes, ballet slippers, leotard and tights.

Q: What can I expect my three-year-old to learn?

A: The teachers will work on locomotor skills, pre-ballet, tap basics, musicality (singing/rhythm) and social interaction. Sometimes young children enjoy the rhythms of music at home, but it takes time for some of them to be ready for organized group activity. At this age it varies a lot from child to child when they are ready. In class, the teacher will encourage them to join in and have fun and help them become a part of the class.

KinderQ: How do I know if my child is progressing well in class?

A: In our waiting rooms we have observation windows so that you may watch your child's class whenever you wish. As far as your child's advancement - the individual teacher is the one who can best judge that in relation to the rest of the class. If you have concerns, we recommend that you schedule a time to meet with the teacher.

Q: What does my child need for class?

A: Tap shoes, ballet slippers, leotard and tights for girls. Tap shoes, ballet slippers, shorts/sweat pants and T-shirt for boys. We do not have a color or style requirement.

We offer dance supplies (shoes and dancewear) right at our studio! Orders placed will be available for pick-up at the studio in one to two weeks. Orders placed in August will be available the first week of September.

Target and Wal*Mart also supply leotards and tights for girls. Tap and ballet shoes may be found at Payless Shoe Store (near Target or in Crossgates). For dancers just starting out, sneakers can be substituted for ballet slippers and "dress up" shoes look similar to tap shoes. We recommend purchasing shoes AFTER your dancer tries a few classes.
