The ISD Competition Team
Any student who is at least 7 years old may audition or be teacher-recommended for the ISD Performing/Competition Team. Students must be able to audition in tap, ballet and jazz and it is recommended that they have taken at least 1-2 years in each discipline.
Our Performance Team competes at two to three competitions per season, winning awards both locally and nationally. The Team also performs for local events and community sites, such as nursing homes and fairs.
Auditions are held at the E. Greenbush Studio in late May or June. Students may also be teacher-recommended for the team. Please contact the Main Office in May if you are interested in auditioning or would like more information.
More Information
The Isabelle School of Dance Competition Team is comprised of about 45 dancers, ages 7 through 18 who exhibit the skill and dedication required of competition dance. We have three teams, the Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. The teams are led by our Studio Director and Competition Faculty (Renee Frank, Abbie White, & Peg Warner) who instruct the students in jazz, ballet and tap, respectively. Students are also required to attend rehearsals on Saturdays, where they learn their choreography from many different faculty members, giving students a well-rounded dance experience.
Each year, the Team competes at regional competitions, usually not more than three hours away from Albany. Competitions are held over a weekend during February-May. We attend one competition which includes a “workshop”—master dance classes taught by the professionals who judge the competition.
Practicing
Students are expected to practice at home a minimum of 30 minutes per week. A competitive dancer must practice in order to uphold their responsibility to the dance studio. Dancers are also expected to participate in classes over the summer and exercise at home so they do not lose their flexibility and technique that they worked for throughout the school year.
